What is Southern Gateway? Southern Gateway is a portal where you can share local news and events in your community. Like traditional portals we also offer listings for local businesses and community groups. We have broken the site into three categories, Living, Working and Playing

Living: This is where you can publish your local news, submit an editorial for discussion, list your community group or local business/service.

Working: includes Southern Exposure, our magazine about job hunting and setting up small business's. In time we will also be setting up listings for freelancers, and job seekers.

Playing: is where we will publish information about your region, things to do, places to stay.

Initially the concept for the project was to create a website that can bring together the varied ideals and lifestyles of people living in Tasmania. A site that will not only help to promote our unique lifestyle, fantastic regions and businesses, but also the grassroots networks in our own communities that sometimes slip by unnoticed.

This is not a new idea and there are many such websites in existence within tasmania's (let alone Australia's) internet landscape. Our particular take is on how we live, work and play, and by providing a way for people to share their community news and activites, we hope to assist in broadening the scope of community interaction.

The primary feature of our website is the "community blog" where we invite all members of the community to submit their community news be it for their community group, their business or social news. This feature will be moderated by an editor so that content not deemed approprite will not appear on the site. Advertorials will only be accepted in negotiation with the site Administrators.

Another feature we are offering is an Editorials page where we will accept an editorial from community members about an approprieate issue within the community. We will offer a right of reply and welcome comments on both.

While access to the site is free, in order to submit your community news or make comments to editorials you will need to register with the site. If you wish to list your business or community group you will need to register as an organisation/business - all basic listings are free, but more detailed ones will have a fee.

How are we funding the site? well, we are seeking advertisers to advertise on the site. If you are interested in advertising on the site please email us at admin@southerngateway.com.au. We will create the graphic for you (if you don't already have one) and have it linked to your listing. Advertisments will be shown by town and by municipality.
